Chiropractic – what we do
Chiropractic is an approach to health and well being that focuses on the body’s own natural ability to function and heal itself, without the use of drugs and surgery. The primary focus of chiropractic is the optimum function of your spine and nervous system. Chiropractic keeps you healthy and helps you to be at your best. Let us take you through how it works:
Your nervous system, which consists of your brain, spinal cord and all your nerves, controls your body and all of its functions.
You have trillions of nerves that branch out, from your spinal cord, to every part of your body. If you can’t imagine that your nerves go to every part of your body, try to find a part of your body that doesn’t feel a pinprick!
Aches and pains which come from tension, misalignments or disturbances to your spine, can happen due to various stresses – physical, chemical and emotional. These spinal misalignments or disturbances are called subluxations. These are not always painful but nevertheless mean that your body isn’t functioning properly. Muscles contract, affecting spinal joints that can irritate nearby nerves.
A fully functioning nervous system is vital to your health, as it controls every cell in your body.
Messages that are vital to your body’s health and wellbeing are constantly relayed back and forth from your brain to each and every cell in your body and then back again to your brain. However, when nerves are irritated, “pinched” or “choked”, they are unable to function properly and affect the nature and quality of the messages that go back and forth. This interference to your nervous system can affect and change how well your body works and it’s ability to adapt to the stresses that are placed on it during your daily life. If your nervous system isn’t functioning properly, poor health can result.
Chiropractors are fully trained to find these subluxations and remove them, by applying chiropractic adjustments to the spine. Removal of nervous system interference helps to restore and improve the function of the nervous system.
Chiropractors correct these spinal subluxations and aim to improve your body’s function, reduce pain and improve health. Health usually improves as regular adjustments restore nervous system integrity. Health and wellbeing, through chiropractic care, has improved the lives of thousands of people at Norwich Chiropractic and all over the world.
